Helen: This is my house. It's not big, and it's not small. But I like it. Three people live here. This is Matt. Matt: Hi. I'm Matt. Helen: This is David. David: Hello. My name's David. Helen: And that's me. Hi. Helen. Pleased to meet you. So, there are three people. But there are four bedrooms. So today is interview day. David: What's your job? Alan: I'm a jazz musician. Matt: Really? What do you play? Alan: The drums. Sarah: But he's very quiet... and friendly. No dogs? Matt: Sorry. Philip: £150 a month? Great! David: Er... No. Helen: £150 a week. Sorry. Where are you from? Anne: Edinburgh. But my job's in Oxford. Helen: Good. Anne: This is a nice house. Helen: Thanks. We're happy here. OK? OK. Anne ... Anne: Cigarette? Helen: I don't smoke. We don't smoke, do we? Matt: Er... No. David: We don't smoke! Anne: Oh. Helen: Sorry. This is terrible. Matt: Who's next? David: Her name's Jane. She's number eight. She's the last. So, Jane, tell us about yourself. Jane: Tell you what? Matt: Anything. Jane: I'm from Brighton. I'm a drama teacher. I don't smoke. I like films. Good food. Helen: Good food? Jane: Yeah. Italian. French. Chinese. Matt: Do you cook? Jane: Yes. I'm a very good cook. David: Do you have a dog? Jane: No. Matt: A cat? Jane: No. Helen: No animals? Matt: Do you play the drums? Jane: No. David: Trombone, violin, saxophone? Jane: Nothing. Helen: That's great, Jane. It's your room. Jane: Fantastic! David: When can you move in? Jane: Next week? Matt: This week? David: Tomorrow? Jane: Sure. Helen: Welcome to 53 Blackwood Road. Jane: Thank you. Thanks a lot. Helen: So now there are four of us.

Episode 2: Home Movie

Helen: There are four people in the house now, and I'm very happy. And Jane? Well, we all tike her. Jane: Morning everybody. Helen: What's this? Jane: It s a video film, about my new house and my new housemates. It's for my sister, Alison. Helen: Oh, right. Jane: Is it OK? Helen: Yes, sure. Jane: OK. Ali. This is the kitchen. And who is this? Say something. David: Say what? It s half past seven in the morning. Jane: Talk to my sister. Introduce yourself. Helen: Go on, David. David: Hello. I'm David. I come from Manchester. I'm a lawyer. I work in Oxford. That's it. Jane: What things do you like? David: I like my job. I like football, swimming... I like a quiet breakfast. And I don't like video cameras. And I start work at eight o'clock. So, bye. Jane: Bye. Davids nice really. Ready? Helen: Just a minute. Ready. Hello, my name's Helen. I come from London but I live in Oxford. What else? Jane: What do you do? Helen: I'm a marketing assistant for a publishing company. I work in Oxford but I sometimes go to the London office. I usually go to work at eight o'clock, and I get home at half past six. Jane: Is it a good job? Helen: It's a very good job. I really like it. What else do I like? I also like good food, films... I go to the gym at the weekend. Oh, and I like travel. I love France and Spain. I speak a little French and Spanish. Jane: What things don't you like? Helen: Well. I don't like noise. Oh. And I don't like cigarettes. Jane: Great. Helen: You're welcome. Jane: Where's Matt? Helen: I think Matthew's still in bed. Jane: Matt? Matt? Matt: Mmmm? Jane: It's Jane. Can I come in? Matt: Mmmm. Jane: Matt? Matt: Mmmm? Jane: Do you want to be in a film for my sister? Just say something. Where are you from? Matt? Where are you from? Matt: Birmingham. Jane: He's from Birmingham. What about your job? Matt: Shop manager. Jane: He's a shop manager. He works in a computer games store. He likes computer games. Matt? Matt: Mmmm? Jane: Do you like computer games? Matt: Mmmm. Jane: And he likes rock music. And he loves his bed. Matt: Mmm. Jane: Matt? What time do you usually get up? Matt: Half past seven. Jane: It's eight o'clock. Matt: It's Wednesday. I start work at one o'clock on Wednesdays. Jane: Matt? Matt: Mmmm? Jane: It's Tuesday. Helen: A perfect start to a perfect day for Matthew.

Episode 3: Do It Yourself

Helen: My room. It's big. It's comfortable. But... I don't know. The walls. This chair. Everything. David: Move the bed. Helen: Where? David: How about under the window? Matt: Put the hi-fi on the chest of drawers. David: Put the chair in the corner. Helen: I don't know... Jane: Why don't you paint it? Helen: Paint what? Jane: Paint the room. Helen: I don't know. I'm not very practical. I don't like painting. I'm always too busy. I don't really have time today. I have a lunch appointment at one o'clock. It's impossible! Jane: Can we do it for you? Helen: Really? David: Yes. Matt: Yeah. Helen: Are you sure? Jane: Of course we're sure. David: What about the colour? Helen: Oh, I don't know. Something nice. Jane: Now don't worry. You go out. Enjoy your lunch and leave it with us. Helen: Thank you. Jane: OK. Let's go and buy some paint. Matt, do you want to come? Matt: Yeah. Jane: Do you want to get dressed? Matt: Oh. Right. David: There is a DAY store here. Jane: Where? Matt: Not on this road. Jane: Ask someone. David: Hang on. Excuse me. Is there a DAY store near here? Passer-by: Yes. Go straight on. Turn left at the roundabout. Go down the road, and it's on the right, next to the supermarket. David: Thank you. Matt: How about this? Jane: Black? There are some really nice colours here. Oh look. This is lovely. David: How much is it? Jane: Sixteen pounds forty-nine. David: Gosh! That's expensive. Jane: Hey, Matt! This is the same colour as your T-shirt. It's gorgeous. What do you think? Matt: Yeah, I like it. David: How much is it? Jane: Eleven pounds ninety-nine. How many do we want? David: Two. That's... twenty-three ninety-eight. Twenty-four pounds. That's OK. Jane: Now, are there any rollers? David: There are some over there. Jane: What do you think? Matt: It looks great. Jane: I love it. David: It looks... interesting... but good. I like it. Matt: Finished? Jane: Yes. Thanks. I really like this colour. Matt: Me too. David: The room looks great. Here she is. Helen: Hello. Jane: Hi, Helen. We're up here. Helen: Can I go in? David: Yes. Jane: Welcome to your new bedroom. Helen: Ugh, Matt. Your T-shirt! Matt: What? Helen: The colour. It's horrible. Ooh! Next time, Helen, don't ask for help. Do it yourself.

Episode 4: Surprise, Surprise!

Helen: This is how it started. Another exciting evening at 53 Blackwood Road. David: Hi. Julia. How are you? Yes, sure... Helen: When's your birthday? Matt: The fourth of August. Helen: That's Leo. You're a lion. Matt: What's wrong? Helen: Nothing. Matt: What about you? Helen: My birthday's the sixteenth of March. I'm a Pisces. Matt: A fish. Ow! What's the horoscope sign for this month? Helen: May? The first part is Taurus. Matt: The bull. So Jane's a bull. Helen: Is Jane's birthday this month? When? Matt: The thirteenth. Helen: The thirteenth of May? But it's the eleventh of May today! That's in two days. Are you sure? Matt: That's what she said. Helen: Did you hear? David: No. Helen: It's Jane's birthday on Saturday. Why don't we have a party? David: In two days? Helen: Yes. Matt: A surprise party. David: Good idea. Helen: Right. How many people? David: Just the four of us. A meal, a cake, something to drink, presents. Helen: OK. Let's make a shopping list. David: I got it. Helen: Let's see it. Matt: That looks great. Where did you get it? Ow! David: I bought it at Pascal's. You know, next to the bank. Helen: How much was it? David: It was fifteen pounds. Helen: Did you get the candles? You didn't get the candles. Matt: I did. Helen: Thank you. David: When does Jane get home? Matt: Usually at half past six... after her game of tennis. In about twenty minutes. Helen: Oh no! David: She's early. Helen: David, help me with this cake. David: Matt, don't let her come into the kitchen. Matt: How? David: Talk to her. Two minutes. Matt: What do you want me to talk about? Helen: Anything. Matt: Hi. Jane. Jane: Hi. Matt. Matt: Let me. Jane: Thanks. Matt: Did you have a nice day? Jane: Er, yes. Matt: What did you do? Jane: I went shopping. Matt: What did you buy? Jane: I bought a T-shirt and some shoes. And I bought some food. Matt, are you OK? Matt: What else did you do? Jane: I played tennis. Matt: Where? Jane: At the sports centre. Matt: I had a good day. Jane: Did you? Matt: I got up at about... er, oh... about eleven o'clock. Then I had breakfast... I had cornflakes, and I had... toast and coffee... and orange juice... and then I watched television. And then... Jane: Matt! Please move. Now! Helen, Matt and David: Happy Birthday!! David: It's not your birthday. Helen: Matthew! Matt: But you said it was the thirteenth of May! Jane: The thirtieth of May, Matt, not the thirteenth. David: Then what do we do with all this food and drink? Helen: We can still have a party. Matt: And what about the thirtieth? Helen: We can have a party then too. Jane: Sure. Matt: Great, two parties! David: But only one present, yes? Helen: Oh David... David: What? Helen: Really! Cheers. So that was the surprise party. A real surprise for everyone!
